How To Increase Website Traffic

(AKA How to Increase Website Traffic and Make More Money with Your 24/7/365 Internet Business)

This wouldn’t have got written if I hadn’t broken my ankle in the Borneo jungle!

Wearing a moon boot and confined to the house enabled me to finish my suite of eBooks and organize my thoughts on how to quickly build traffic to my website.

First of all, I organized my strategies into these categories:

CREATE – Create some product that is your own. It can be an eBook, a blog, an online course, or it could be a physical product that you want to sell. Then create your website (I recommend creating a site – it’s inexpensive, easy to build, they look great, and you’re in charge).

OPTIMIZE – Get some good hosting for your website, and do your on-page SEO and off-page SEO that Google rewards.

INTERACT – Interact with others’ websites. Comment on posts, post guest posts, and answer questions on Q & A sites This will give you a good mix of backlinks and enhance your reputation.

SHARE – Share your thoughts on social media, make Youtube videos for free, and grow a following. Give good quality stuff away!

PARTNER – Join affiliate programs and find joint venture partners who will send traffic to your site and sell your stuff for a share of the profits.

BRAND – Uniquely brand yourself to attract traffic. You could put a link to your free stuff in your digital signature!

BUY – Hey, don’t discount buying traffic, if it is cost effective for you. Do the sums and never let it become a visit to the casino. I experimented with this a lot when I wrote my first eBooks, and it can get heady!

Here are my general suggestions to build traffic:

  • This is a different approach you won’t come across anywhere else – firstly, DECIDE HOW MUCH WEBSITE TRAFFIC YOU NEED to make your target profit! Just follow the thought threads in my infographic to calculate this. By doing this, you are being proactive and empowered and not just trying a serial scattergun approach. When you’ve calculated your target number of visitors, use my infographic to build a plan of parallel actions to achieve this figure within a defined timeframe, implement the actions, track your success and refine your plan.
  • Become a Google ‘groupie’ and ensure your website conforms to Google’s Best Practice. Google provides an amazing collection of free advice, tools, and tutorials eg the SEO Starter Guide and the Page Speed tool. Also use Google Webmaster Tools, signup for Google Authorship, Google Analytics, Keyword Planner, Google Plus, and actively seek +1s.
  • If your website is new, get a hit of traffic initially from buying it, or buying ads. This will motivate you to build free traffic as well as giving you practical information on visitor behaviour at your site, conversion rate, etc. that you can use to refine your site.
  • Post regularly on your blog. Even if your site is a sales site, have a blog to draw visitors to your website. Google will reward your posting efforts as it sees you are helping. Here are two articles I was much impressed with that describe the dramatic increase in website traffic achieved due to posting 50 posts in 25 days and 150 posts in 50 days.
  • Auto-distribute your posts by RSS and to your social pages and Twitter.
  • Create and giveaway eBooks/ guides to build a mailing list that you can market to.
  • Comment and post on the top 10 sites for your main keyword.
  • Comment on blogs and forums in your niche, and on Q & A sites.
  • Research and get the same backlinks as your more successful competitors (yes, spy on your competitors!).
  • Create videos, screencasts and slideshows with links to your website and post them on YouTube.
  • Create helping and memorable infographics with links to your website, and distribute them.
  • Create an online course at with links to your website.
  • Build yourself as an authority on your topic in social media.
  • Publish a $0.01 lure eBook or guide on Kindle with a link back to your site.
  • Re-purpose any content you’ve created and distribute it eg you can anthologize all your blog posts into an eBook.
  • Jazz up your website with traffic lures and ‘link bait’ such as coupons, contest, and awards.
  • Join an affiliate program for your product, so affiliates can promote and send extra traffic to your site.
